After chasing the little around the house for most of the day, I decided a car ride was in order. Chances were good he would fall asleep and I would write. Neither happened. Instead, we drove to a coffee shop before picking L up from school. I stood in line. I held him around my hip and as he tried to wriggle down my leg, I tried to find my wallet, pick up our snacks, and balance a hot cup of tea. Forget traditional superheroes, in that moment, I wanted to turn into Hindu Goddess Durga, a motherly figure who destroys evils, has eight arms, and rides around on a lion. I could have used extra arms plus a lion.
I’m giving this yearlong project a spin. Undoubtedly, I will fall and pick up again. Knowing this makes it easier. Still, I plan to show up to record a short photo and story of my day. You’re welcome to join me. I’d love it really. We can give each other high fives and geek out with a hashtag (#ayearofus), not because everyone is doing it, but because we’re doing it, together. Showing up every damn day to make this creative habit real.
