He had gotten into the habit of depositing small gifts in unsuspecting places. Legos in the second dresser drawer or dropped off in the diaper pail, depending on where he happened to be at the time. Close to bedtime, he discovered three boxes filled with exposed Polaroid film on the table. I needed to scan and file the film but hadn’t yet. I was at the kitchen sink washing the blueberry bowl and coffee cup, when he wandered off. A minute later, I found him sorting through the Polaroids he emptied onto the floor, ready to leave them elsewhere when I turned away.
I’m giving this yearlong project a spin. Undoubtedly, I will fall and pick up again. Knowing this makes it easier. Still, I plan to show up to record a short photo and story of my day. You’re welcome to join me. I’d love it really. We can give each other high fives and geek out with a hashtag (#ayearofus), not because everyone is doing it, but because we’re doing it, together. Showing up every damn day to make this creative habit real.
