I rushed to pack our bags so we could drive home before the afternoon storm. The cousins rode in the back, two of them ate popcorn and watched a movie, and the other one slept. White clouds moved toward us from the west. “How much longer,” he asked more than once during the trip. We were halfway home then 30 minutes away. On the back roads into town, snowflakes hit the windshield. I opened the car door, they ran into the house, ready for tacos and jumping.
I’m giving this yearlong project a spin. Undoubtedly, I will fall and pick up again. Knowing this makes it easier. Still, I plan to show up to record a short photo and story of my day. You’re welcome to join me. I’d love it really. We can give each other high fives and geek out with a hashtag (#ayearofus), not because everyone is doing it, but because we’re doing it, together. Showing up every damn day to make this creative habit real.
