The call came last night: there would be a two-hour school delay in the morning. I made oatmeal and listened to him recount the latest Lego building plan. We bundled up to drive to school. Snow glittered in sun. “Are we late,” he asked again. “No,” I said and kissed him goodbye before we were in view of the front door. Back home, the little one walked around with the phone, chatting with Siri about who knows what. Then he found my writing notebook, daily planner, and a pen and got to work.
I’m giving this yearlong project a spin. Undoubtedly, I will fall and pick up again. Knowing this makes it easier. Still, I plan to show up to record a short photo and story of my day. You’re welcome to join me. I’d love it really. We can give each other high fives and geek out with a hashtag (#ayearofus), not because everyone is doing it, but because we’re doing it, together. Showing up every damn day to make this creative habit real.
