He walked in the door with bad news. I didn’t know how to respond other than to question the weight of it. When L came home from school, he stayed with them and I went down to the river. The land cuts into a V held on either side by water. I walked down the path and lay down on top of ice, snow, and earth. A bird flitted by then a plane. It was close to sunset and the whole place filled with shadow and light. I could have stayed until the stars shone, but left after the cold set in.
I’m giving this yearlong project a spin. Undoubtedly, I will fall and pick up again. Knowing this makes it easier. Still, I plan to show up to record a short photo and story of my day. You’re welcome to join me. I’d love it really. We can give each other high fives and geek out with a hashtag (#ayearofus), not because everyone is doing it, but because we’re doing it, together. Showing up every damn day to make this creative habit real.
